Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced a program viz., SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) in the year 2009. Based on this program, the ECI gives Best Electoral Practices Award every year to Individuals and Institutions for the exemplary work done in each year.
Rev.Fr.A.S.Antonisamy, Founder and promoter of FAMCO, convinced of the need of implementing 100% ethical participation of SVEEP, realized also that the FAMCO, (FAMILY DEVELOPMENT COOPERATIVE THRIFT AND CREDIT SOCIETY (LTD.,) a Multi State Cooperative Society, is the appropriate organization to implement the SVEEP through its Members (Self Help Groups) (SHGs) functioning in the states of Puducherry, Tamilnadu and Karnataka. FAMCO also came forward to implement the program effectively and efficiently. 262 SHG members proved their 100% participation and voted during the Parliamentary elections in 2014. With the guidance given by FAMCO, the same SHGs and two Immaculate women college students from Viriyur (Tamilnadu) and Pakkamudayanpet (Puducherry) also showed 100% participation and voted during the Assembly Elections in 2016.
The above two experience geared up FAMCO to submit a plan to the Puducherry State Election Commission for initiating 100% ethical participation preceded by voters’ education in Raj Bhavan Constituency of Puducherry state. The Puducherry State Election Commission accepted the plan and approved FAMCO as a Partner with the State Election Commission for implementing voters’ education.
Based on this approval, the Puducherry State Election Commission and FAMCO jointly conducted one day seminar on “100% Ethical Voting” at the Pondicherry Central University presided by the Vice-Chancellor of the University on 21.04.2016.
